Vocal Showcase 2023

On Wednesday 21 June 2023, Euphonix (Year 7-9), Nothing But Treble (Junior) and the Senior Singers were very excited to perform in the Vocal Showcase!

This was a culmination of their work throughout the year and what a finale to the year it was!

It was a hot afternoon and the marquee looked amazing with bunting and flowers.  The Jazz Band entertained the audience before the showcase began, playing several toe-tapping numbers as the large audience mingled and found their seats.

Nothing But Treble started the show with a procession and a fabulous rendition of Eye of the Tiger, brilliantly accompanied by Dr Tebbs on piano and Mr Daruvala on drum kit.  In their brightly coloured t-shirts, the children gave a rousing opening number.  They ended their first set with two upbeat ABBA songs.  Highlights later in the Showcase from Nothing But Treble included This Is Me from The Greatest Showman and I Will Come To You by Hanson.

Euphonix then took to the stage, smartly dressed in all black, and performed the uplifting Own Kind Of Music.  They continued to sing a number of other songs, all in perfect harmony.  Highlights of which included, Rhythm of Life from the musical Sweet Charity, Eric Clapton’s Tears In Heaven and The Music’s Always There With You by John Rutter.  Euphonix concluded their second set with an amazing rendition of Queen’s’ Bohemian Rhapsody with an a capella opening in three parts, violin solos by Mrs Page and exciting drumming, not to mention the opera section in the middle; it was a truly memorable performance!

The Senior Singers were delighted to share a wonderful medley of songs from the hit film La La Land.  This was performed in beautiful and complex harmony and the performance was confident and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

The Vocal Showcase culminated in a wonderful finale, which resulted in an encore, with all choirs performing Africa’ by Toto in fabulous three part harmony.  This started with some audience participation as we re-created a storm using body percussion before Dr Tebbs on piano, Miss Woodhouse on saxophone and Mr Daruvala began the famous opening introduction.   It was a really brilliant and special concert and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
