St Gabriel’s

School Transport

St Gabriel's operates ten bus routes to help pupils get to and from school and to reduce our carbon footprint.

The routes service Ramsbury and Lambourn to the west, Hermitage to the north, Pangbourne to the east, and Basingstoke, Overton, and Andover to the south.  The school also provides a bus service to and from Newbury train station.

All drivers are checked either by the school or the local authority.  The Vehicle Operating Standards Agency carries out checks on vehicles, and the school ensures that regular maintenance and safety checks are carried out in accordance with DVLA Guidance.

Arrangements from September 2020

All our routes will operate in September, as normal, with the exception of the station route.

Government guidance has confirmed that social distancing on dedicated school transport will not be mandatory from September 2020; however, where possible, distancing in our vehicles and contractors’ vehicles will be maintained.  The following arrangements for pupils have been agreed to help ensure their safe return to school:

  • Face coverings for both drivers and pupils will be compulsory for travel on the bus
  • Pupils will be expected to sanitise will their hands prior to their journey and on arrival at school
  • Pupils will sit in allocated seats in order of boarding/disembarkation and have the same seat for the rest of the term
  • No food or drink will be consumed on the bus
  • Pupils will not be allowed on transport if showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

We have invested in commercial mist foggers for our vehicles using Suprasan sanitising solution.  The solution is independently certified against Covid-19, killing 99.9% of bacteria, spores, viruses and mould on contact which will sanitise material seat and fittings.  The buses will also be manually cleaned after each journey, paying particular attention to rails, seatbelts and handles.  Vehicles will also be ventilated on all journeys.

Our drivers will be following all health and safety guidelines which include mandatory face coverings and the front seat adjacent to the driver will not be in use.
