Year 4 Trip to Lulworth Cove

Year 4 went on their first residential trip last week to Lulworth Cove in Dorset.

They arrived at Durdle Door on Monday in time for our picnic lunch, followed by some great observational sketching of the famous arch. The children explored Man O'War beach for a couple of hours, paddled and did lots of things with pebbles. They walked back over the cliffs to Lulworth for a well-received ice cream, and then took some beautiful footpaths back to the youth hostel for the intensely exciting moment of dorm allocation and unpacking.

After supper everyone played for a final time outside, and then bed and sleep.....eventually. Day 2 started with an extensive breakfast and walk back to the Cove for the morning with the Lulworth Educational department. Our ranger, Christine, explained in detail how the unique coastline has evolved as a result of the process of erosion on the four local rock types. They then visited Stair Hole with the famous Lulworth Crumple (where rock layers have been crushed inwards) and its blowhole. Lunch on the beach of the cove, and a visit to the gift shop rounded off a pretty much perfect trip.
