Y4 Visit Lulworth Cove

Penny from Year 4 has written this lovely account of their recent residential trip to Lulworth Cove in Dorset as part of the geography curriculum.

'Year 4 had a sensational couple of days at Lulworth Cove. When we arrived, the weather was gorgeous and we headed straight to Durdle Door. We sketched a picture of it from the cliff top and then went down to the beach to get a closer look. On the beach we enjoyed paddling in the sea and I found some anemones. Everyone was trying to find fossils but we weren't in luck! We did find lots of beautiful rocks though and we used these to make beach art by balancing stones, like Mr. Smith showed us in assembly. Before the end of the day we played lots of fun games with Miss Pearmine like dodgeball and 40-40 in. It was really exciting sleeping on our dorms, away from home for the first time and I enjoyed sharing with my friend Poppy.

On day two, we started with a hearty cooked breakfast and then met a ranger from the English Heritage Centre. He took us on a coastal walk and explained to us about the rock layers and how old all the rocks were. The oldest rock, the Portland Limestone is 150 million years old: amazing! Just before we went home we had our packed lunches overlooking the beautiful Dorset coast. What a brilliant time we had!'
