A level qualifications are offered in French, Italian and Spanish; Mandarin Chinese is offered at Cambridge Pre-U. We are very proud of our students’ achievements in modern foreign languages and our leavers have secured places at many of the top universities in the country. Over the last ten years, there has always been at least one of our students studying a modern language at Oxford or Cambridge.
The A level and Cambridge Pre-U courses cover a broad range of themes such as, social issues and trends, political and artistic culture, literary texts and films; in short, there is something for everyone. Improving communication skills in the language itself is not the only benefit of studying a modern foreign language to A level or Cambridge Pre-U as, equally, students develop their abilities to research, analyse and present information at a high level. Qualifications in a modern foreign language sit particularly well alongside subjects such as history, politics, economics, business and sciences, and add to the employability profile of each student. Languages at A level and Cambridge Pre-U are well-respected by universities and are included in the Russell Group's list of ‘Facilitating Subjects’ – those subjects that are recommended for entry onto competitive courses at top universities.
Taught in small groups, a good relationship develops between teacher and students, meaning that the support for individuals is high quality.
