Students develop a lifelong love of this subject and are equipped with a wide range of intellectual skills, giving them a greater understanding of the world around them.
Lessons are lively and exciting, with plenty of opportunity for debate. Students acquire insight into both modern and early modern history, with topics guaranteed to grab their interest, such as the impact of Communism on 20th Century Russia, the nature of Mao’s dictatorship in China, and a study of rebellion and disorder in Tudor England.
The Mrs Montague Society provides our students with Oxbridge and extension classes enabling the best historians to discuss higher-level concepts such as the meaning of history, the role of the individual in history and counter-factual history.
They finish the course with the ability to weigh up evidence, argue a case and write in a clear and organised way. These are highly transferable skills, useful in most degree level subjects, which is why universities and employers still regard History as a ‘gold standard’ academic subject that enhances any CV.
Our students have gone on to study History or Politics at the Universities of Leeds, Bristol, Exeter, London , Edinburgh, Nottingham and York.
