Severe Weather Warnings

The Met Office has issued a number of warnings about snow and road conditions from Mon 2nd – Wed 4th Feb. The school plans to be able to operate normally over this period but some contingency plans may be brought into operation.

The most vulnerable part of the whole operation is getting pupils into school and home again. Although Hampshire and West Berkshire gritters have been operating on Sunday, it is not possible to predict whether all roads will be passable if heavy snow falls.

If parents are unable to bring pupils to school because roads are impassable, please email the details to the school secretary (exceptionally a letter will not be required on this occasion) at tracey@stgabriels.co.uk

Similarly, we will assume that all 11 school bus routes will operate until we receive details of any road closures. There is likely to be delays to routes because of the weather and in these circumstances we would suggest that parents wait with pupils in case the route is unavoidably cancelled or severely delayed. We would suggest that if a bus has not arrived within 20 minutes of its expected pick up in the morning then it is likely that the route has been cancelled or diverted by the weather.

We will try to contact parents/pupils to inform them of conditions or cancellations, and we will post information on the website under “NOTICES”

In the event that severe weather occurs during the day, we will post any information for parents on this website and inform by email.
