Junior Cricket Masterclass
On Wednesday 29th February 2012 we hosted a junior Cricket Master Class for years 5 and 6.
Coaches from the Newbury Cricket were be led by qualified ECB coach, Kevin Mills. Kevin was accompanied by other ECB coaches and came into school to run a junior cricket training session to offer the girls the opportunity to experience cricket and to give them information about the provision for this sport in their local area.
The England's Women's team have been hugely successful in the past few years and Newbury Cricket Club are keen to introduce cricket to girls as part of our ambitious club development programme. To support this, they teamed up with St. Gabriel’s to offer cricket Master Classes through the girls’ PE sessions.
The first of these Master Classes was held on Wednesday 29th February for Years 5 & 6 between 2pm and 4pm. Newbury CC’s qualified cricket coaches gave a short talk about cricket and then run the students through some basic and fun cricket skills activities.
Newbury CC were then able to provide details of their junior section, including dates and locations of winter training should the girls then want to look into playing cricket after the Master Class. This could be an opportunity for the girls to match the achievements of another of Newbury CC’s junior players, who have come through the club’s junior coaching system to now be playing for Berkshire Ladies.
