"Women....need to act like men to gain control"

"We experienced a fantastic variety of debates, discussions and lectures on Shakespeare. Motions we debated included: “Women in Shakespeare need to act like men to gain control” and “Shakespeare was more adept at writing comic rather than tragic episodes.” We had forty minutes to prepare for each debate and found this challenging yet intellectually stimulating. It was fantastic to be surrounded by so many fellow lovers of the Bard and to discuss the merits of the great playwright with some esteemed academics. On our first evening we were given the opportunity to watch a brilliant production by Michael Boyd of ‘Henry VI, part one,’ which provided more fuel for debate the following day. Unfortunately, we didn’t reach the grand final, though we thoroughly enjoyed watching it! Indeed, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and it has inspired us all to further expand our Shakespearian knowledge and debating skills."
