Oxford Union debaters
Four girls from St. Gabriel's took part in the Oxford Union International schools debating competition last Saturday in and around the Oxford Union. The teams did very well achieving 1st and 2nd places in some of their heats. The topics ranged from "This house believes that prison sentences should be reserved only for violent crimes" to "Schools should should be required to accept a quota of disadvantaged pupils" The Year 7 team were the youngest in the competition and achieved a 1st in one of their debates. Mrs Vale, who organises the Debating club, was delighted with the girls - more competitions follow shortly.
