Rhyme for Success on World Poetry Day

In celebration of World Poetry Day on March 21st, four pupils were crowned winners of a poetry competition organised by David Wilson Homes Southern. The winning entries from Pippa in Y8, Grace in Y6, Jasmyn in Y5 and Luke in Y2, were all selected by the developer as part of its competition requiring poems based on the topic of homes.

Danica Trim, a former pupil and now a David Wilson Homes Sales Office Manager, announce the winners and awarded the prizes.  In addition to presenting each winner with a £20 book token, Danica spoke to the school’s aspiring poets with guidance and inspiration based on her own poetry work.

Peter Dove, Head of the Junior School, explained that all of the children thoroughly enjoyed participating in the competition as it provided the opportunity to strengthen their creative writing skills. It was also lovely to welcome Danica back to the school to award the prizes.

Rob Allen, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Southern was very impressed with the entries received from the pupils of St Gabriel’s and said that it was an extremely difficult decision choosing the winners. The winning entries will be displayed in one of  show homes at its development at Newbury Racecourse.
