Careers in Classics

As part of the on-going enrichment programme in the Classics Department,  we held a careers talk on Friday, 2 December, for GCSE and A Level students. Dr Maria Stamatopoulou of Lincoln College spoke about the courses on offer at Oxford University and the kind of careers her past students have followed since graduating (including video game development, superyacht sales, and fiction writing), as well as the interview process that students can expect during their Oxford application. In addition, William Clarke and Kelly Braund discussed how a degree in classics lead them into their fields of finance and law. Students had the opportunity to ask questions after the talks and topics included UCAS statements, practical archaeological aspects of classics courses, and how the speakers chose the universities they wanted to apply to. Hopefully the talk will have given the students a broader understanding of university and career paths, as well as the doorways that studying classics can open.

Visitors to St Gabriel's quickly recognise that this is no ordinary school. Parents are always impressed by the sense of purpose and enthusiasm of the talented, committed staff and the confidence of the extremely happy pupils. We offer girls the opportunity for a seamless journey from Nursery through to Sixth Form, with our boys leaving us at the age of 11 for their senior schools.
