Sixth Form Visit to Southampton University

On Friday 6 November, Year 12 and Year 13 visited Southampton University for the day. On arrival, we were given a talk on research methods by Richard Penny, a Teaching Fellow in Political Theory and a PhD student. Following this, we conducted some computer based research in the ICT labs, gaining some first-hand experience of how to access library e-journals and build up a reading list. We were then able to explore the campus over lunch, before spending the afternoon in the Hartley Library, exploring books and paper sources.

Overall, the trip gave us a fantastic insight into the skills that are needed for university study, whilst giving the EPQ students a great opportunity to come away with a range of detailed sources for their projects.
