Over the past two weeks over 350 enthusiastic young mathematicians, have battled it out in two exciting Maths Challenges. Against the clock, the children were challenged by Douglas Buchanan to find the solution to a variety of teasers, including What Next, Make 24? Curly Cycling, Sudoku and Broken Calculators.
After over an hour of fast-paced number crunching excitement, the Year 4 Maths Challenge was won by John Rankin School and Elstree School, while Curridge Primary School and Falkland Primary School were victorious at the Year 5 Maths Challenge.
Mr Ricki Smith, Principal at St Gabriel’s, commented, ‘we were delighted to welcome some 36 local schools to St Gabriel’s to take part in the two DC Beagle Maths Challenges. This was a fun way for the children to put their maths skills into practice; all the children involved rose to the occasion and I was amazed by the speed of their mental maths. Our Senior School girls helped with the marking and thoroughly enjoyed supporting pupils from some of their old primary schools.’
