Year 6 pupil, Imogen Strong, known as Moggy, has secured one of just 12 coveted places to train at the Royal Ballet School. Becoming a professional ballerina has been Moggy’s dream since she started dancing when she was just 3 years old. Back then, it was just one ballet class a week but over time, this has progressed to attending dance classes at JLD School of Dance in Kingsclere almost every day after school. Two years ago, Moggy was selected, at audition, to become a Royal Ballet School junior associate, and in January this year, she successfully auditioned to join Ballet Boost Associates.
After much family discussion, Moggy decided to audition for vocational senior schools. Selected from hundreds of applicants, she reached final auditions for the Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst Ballet School and Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. However, Moggy ’s ultimate dream became a reality when in early March she was invited back to the Royal Ballet School to attend two final days of auditions and interviews, along with many other national and international hopefuls. A long few days followed as she waited for the results, then came the exciting news of the offer of a full time boarding place at the prestigious school in Richmond Park. When she joins the Royal Ballet School in Year 7 this September, she will divide her time between academic classes and ballet. Moggy, said she just cannot wait to start and is incredibly grateful for all the support shown to her by staff and friends at St Gabriel's and all her dance teachers at JLD.
This week (Friday and Saturday 19 & 20 May) Moggy can be seen performing in the English Youth Ballet's performance of Sleeping Beauty at Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre. As one of Aurora's friends she will be on stage for a lot of the show.
