Business is front page news; the way companies operate is under greater scrutiny than ever before, while TV programmes such as The Apprentice, The Fixer and Dragons' Den have raised the profile of the world of commerce.
Students follow current business developments and apply their understanding through examining and thinking critically about real situations. Topics include leadership, strategic management and change, the interrelated nature of business activities and how they affect competitiveness, ethical and environmental issues, organisational culture and e-commerce, as well as functions such as marketing, finances, operations and HR. Throughout the course students will use their quantitative skills to support analysis and decision making, whilst the ability to interpret and apply a wide range of theories and models will be developed.
Students have access to a wide range of relevant and up to date resources to support their learning including the department's course website which is tailored directly to the new A level specification.
Business & Management is a popular option for higher education with students obtaining places at a wide range of universities. A key benefit is that Business can be combined with most subjects in joint or combined degrees (e.g. with languages or technology) so students do not have to give up subjects that fascinate them just to pursue a degree with good prospects.
Students are encouraged to follow relevant business news on the department's Twitter account @StGabsBusiness.
