Year 7 Pupil Receives the Mayor's Youth Award

Year 7 pupil, Hollie, received the Mayor's Youth Award on Wednesday 11 May.

Hollie was nominated for the Mayor's Youth Award due to the fundraising activity she undertook last year. She challenged herself to run 60 miles in 60 days. Starting in February 2022, she ran a mile each day or sometimes more, to allow for rest days.

After reading a book which suggested different ideas to improve your mental health, Hollie decided on this challenge to raise money for a local charity. She decided on a local charity called The Pink Palace as it supports the wellbeing of adults affected by cancer. Within 60 days she had run the full 60 miles, varying her route and even running along Brighton seafront! Hollie featured in local papers, and had also been to visit one of the wellbeing sessions at The Pink Palace. She raised a tremendous £1,408 for the charity!

Hollie was incredibly self-motivated and ran her mile before school most days!

Hollie was honoured to be invited to cut the ribbon at the opening of The Pink Palace's new office in late 2022, alongside the Mayor of Basingstoke. On Wednesday 10 May 2023, Hollie received the Mayor's Youth Award after being nominated by The Pink Palace for her fundraising efforts. The award recognises the significant achievements of people under the age of 18 who have either worked with the local community, supported vulnerable people, or showed initiative or organisational skills. Hollie was invited to the Mayor's parlour and was presented with a certificate to recognise her achievements.

Hollie has further plans to raise money for The Pink Palace, so stay tuned to see what she gets up to! For further information about The Pink Palace, click here

Congratulations to Hollie for this fantastic achievement!
