Women in Engineering

On Monday, Cari Strong from Thatcham Research delivered an engaging talk about ‘Women in Engineering’ to Year 10-12.

The talk discussed how cars were tested for their safety, and videos were shown of how their team go about doing this. Then, Cari talked through the jobs available in engineering nationally, and also the non-engineering aspects of Thatcham Research: for example, Human Resources, social media coordinator, and many more.

We then took part in a quiz in our teams, and answered questions in order to get tasty prizes. We learnt that the most stolen car was a Ford Fiesta, closely followed by a Range Rover (mostly by reflecting the key signal from inside the house to the car). We then discussed the car that scored zero stars in safety last year – we were all very surprised to learn that it was the Renault Zoe! I found the talk very beneficial because I am considering different routes into engineering, so hearing about Cari’s university experience and having the opportunity to learn about the different apprenticeships that are offered at Thatcham Research was helpful, especially as we move forward to applying for universities and apprenticeships.
