Year 7 Trip to See 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks'

In January, Year 7 took a trip to see 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks' at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. The pupils really enjoyed their drama trip. The pupils have put together a collection of their favourite moments from the performance to send to the cast and crew as a thank you for this great experience!

- Emily Jennings

Dear the cast and crew at Bedknobs and Broomsticks,

Thank you so much for putting on an AMAZING show! I thought it was fabulous. The special effects were so cool. I loved the bed flying, the objects moving, and the broom. I especially loved the song ‘Portobello Road’. It was such a catchy song, and the staging of the song was great. I loved ‘The Beautiful Briny Sea’ because the actors used the fish, and it was so realistic how they moved the fish. All the actors and actresses were incredible. I loved Emelius Browne, Eglantine Price, the children, and the ensemble. I loved the comedy, fun, and joyfulness in the musical. Thank you!

- Ellie

Thank you so much for letting us come and watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I really enjoyed it. My favourite part was when Mr Browne was doing magic tricks because it was very funny!

– Iris

I liked the scene where they tricked the King and took his brooch because it was funny and suspenseful.

– Amelia

I liked the fish and the choreography which went with the song ‘Portobello Road’.

– Elsie

My favourite part of the show was the flying broomstick and how it looked realistic when she crashed.

– Alexandra

Thank you so much for letting us watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks, it was very good. My favourite scene was the fishing bear scene, I loved how the actors blended in and did not stand out. I really liked how artistic the puppetry was.

– Izzy

Thank you so much for letting us come to watch your show. My favourite scene was the part when they were trying to find the book. I loved the whale play and thought it was amazing.

I enjoyed the underwater ballroom scene and the puppets of the animals.

I loved the part when the actors were holding the fish in Isle of Naboombu.

I really liked the concept of Bedknobs and Broomsticks. There were so many twists and turns, which made it very enjoyable. The plot was absolutely incredible! It was very different and unique! I would definitely recommend Bedknobs and Broomsticks to everyone, not to mention that the songs were very catchy indeed!!

My favourite part of the show was when the tiger watched the magic show because he looked so realistic and the bird was really pretty as well as being really detailed.

In the play Bedknobs and Broomsticks I really enjoyed Mr Browne turning into a rabbit as it was really comical, create and fun. The sound, movement and expressions were all on point and the exaggeration made it so much fun to watch.                                                                                                          I really loved the 'Briny Sea Song', especially at the start when you got completely redressed. It was full of life and colour!                                        Overall I loved the whole show so well done to the entire team for making the magic a reality!

My favourite part about the theatre was the flying bed because it looked so real, and it felt so magical. It was great. Carry on being amazing!

The show was incredible. I enjoyed every minute of it. My favourite part was how the amour moved!

I loved all of the show, but I really enjoyed the puppets. My favourite puppets were the lion and the bird. The movement was really smooth, and I thought the movement of the puppets showed their emotions really well. Thank you for having us.

- Caitlin

Thank you so much for performing that AMAZING show! My favourite part of the entire show was the shiny briny sea song and scene. The puppets were so clever and the singing was mind-blowing. My only question is, how did you make the bed fly?!

- Kitty

To Mayflower Theatre, thank you for putting on a great show of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, it was highly enjoyable for me, and I loved every second of it. My favourite part was when the bed flew, and it still makes me confused on how you managed to do it. So, how did you make the bed fly? I also loved the songs as I thought they were all very creative. I hope you do another show soon because I would definitely try to come. Thank you again for the amazing show.

I absolutely loved Bedknobs and Broomsticks! It was so magical and heart-warming! My favourite part was the briny ballroom when all the fish puppets were dancing, and I just found it so fun and brilliant! It was really hard to choose one favourite part though as I enjoyed the whole show so much! I've recommended Bedknobs and Broomsticks to everyone I know.

I really liked the Island of no people, and how the puppets were used. It was very impressive! I was also impressed by the flying bed! How did you do it? The fish was also really cool, and I loved the flying broomsticks.

Dear Bedknobs and Broomsticks cast, I really enjoyed the play. My favourite part was when Mr Browne did the 1-2-switcheroo and stole the lady's knickers. I thought it was very funny.

I really enjoyed the AMAZING singing and tunes! I loved how real it was. Well done!! How did you make the bed fly?

I really enjoyed the performance the other day! How did you get the shoes to dance? You were all amazing!

Dear the cast of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, thank you so much for the show at the Southampton Mayflower Theatre. I really enjoyed all of the songs and dances. The lighting and effects were amazing and fitted the mood really well.                                                                                                My favourite part though was when the children were on the train. I loved how it moved and all of the transitions from when the train was passing and leaving the stations. I also loved the songs and music.                            Thank you so much, it was an amazing experience.
